Characters' animations are beautifully drawn. The metroidvania elements are properly thought out and the backtracking doesn't get tired after a while as each upgrade gives you even more mobility than the last (the last upgrade is rather bland though). The time stop mechanic is amazingly well-implemented and feels very fluid and fresh; easily my favorite thing about the game. Pulling off a proper MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA on an unwitting mob never gets old, nor does the knife acrobatics once you get some of the later upgrades. Boss fights are very engaging. All patterns, no matter how dense, are manageable one way or another and, like all great metroidvanias, incorporate game mechanics like "imbued" objects that behave differently when time is stopped (time stop is pretty much required to create openings to escape some of them). On that point, the one thing I particularly liked about the game is that while time stop immunity does exist, there's only one arguably \u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665t sequence with a lot of immune enemies; what's more important is that none of the bosses and very few of their patterns are immune.Combined with the risk-reward graze mechanics (which still work in frozen time, to some extent) and the fact that Sakuya's hitbox is actually smaller than her sprite (like in the original games), it really makes you feel like a god(dess) among maids, kicking\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665and mopping floors. Make no mistake, though, the game is not easy - your powers may be broken, but your resources are finite, and refilling them requires getting very close and personal. For added clutch, if you want to heal, you can't ZA WARUDO either - you only gain HP from grazing if time is not frozen. God(dess) among maids or not, if you mismanage your MP or run out of TIME (pun intended), you die. It's also a good Touhou game and is pretty faithful to the games - as per fangame tradition, the soundtrack consists of remixes of the originals which are good in their own right, the first and last stage themes are my personal favorites. The characters are well-written (though Sakuya does act stupid sometimes - has she never seen a phone in her life?), down to the memes like Patchy's ever-present asthma, Marisa "permanently borrowing" things and some soundtrack choices (I laughed like an idiot once I got to a certain final boss phase). No pad- dodges knife -or JoJo references, though. If you pay attention, there are also surprising amounts of foreshadowing to the later plot twists (don't the 7 gems and their colors remind you of a... certain someone? What's Nitori even doing here, she's not related to the SDM? Why is she so insistent on you using her shop?)The only real complaint about the game is that it's far too short, I can't think of anything else. Otherwise the game is mechanically sound, flows very well and, like I said before, the time stop mechanic put a very refreshing spin on the genre. They better \u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665ing deliver.. Luna Nights is a fun and smooth Metroid type game with some very slick graphics and banger remixes of classic Touhou tracks. I'm bad at the normal bullet-hell type Touhou games but I still enjoy the aesthetic and on top of that this game provides a ton of interesting time slowing and time stop mechanics.It took me ~4 hours to beat, but I found it to be all killer, no filler.. A real treat for a fan of Touhou and an even bigger fan of Sakuya! This game delivers all the action of a metroidvania and combines it with the hectic elements of Touhou, which it accomplishes by pouring in a slew of enemies that will toss projectiles at you without mercy along with obstacles that will challenge your platforming abilities. I had initially thought that time stop and time slow would make the game a little too easy but boss and enemy mechanics are built around those two mechanics - projectiles that only move during stopped time, and those that move during slowed time. I do wish they built more around the mechanic of time being sapped away by the red mist though.Bosses hit that oh-so satisfying difficulty where you feel super good about yourself after beating them. As you progress, bosses will get harder and pile on more of the time mechanics you encounter, however, you will be more than well equipped with the knowledge to get past what they throw at you.Graphically, this game is beautiful! The details that go into every bit of the background are astounding. From the flickering of the lights to the sprinkling of the water - everything has a bit of love poured into it to make this game something special.This game took me about 2 hours to beat! It's definitely polished and worth the 18 dollar price tag. A definite must-buy for anyone that loves metroidvanias or Touhou.. toki wo tomato. Good, but short, meteroidvania. Plays very similarly to Symphony of the Night.The game is rather easy.Boss fights may require a couple tries, but if you go grind some generic mobs for a couple dozen minutes that should make things easier.Puzzles are not very challenging, in most cases the solution is immediately obvious (albeit not necessarily the optimal one).Five stages, five bosses (the final one having two forms\/stages), took me about 5 hours to visit most of the map, get most upgrades, beat all bosses. Might take a little longer depending on your skill level.Other than that, the music is nice enough, albeit not really something to write home about.Character design is also nice, with an occasional oddity once in a while.I played with an Xbox 360 controller, and the controls felt tight. That said, the first thing I did was rebind controls to my liking -- the defaults felt extremely weird. Thankfully, controls are fully rebindable.All in all, very nicely done, and the price feels right, more or less. So a definite recommendation for meteroidvania and\/or Touhou fans.One thing to note: at the time of writing, the achievements did not work. The devs promise to fix it in the next update; they also promise to add another stage.. like metriodvainias like touhou then you will love this great game.. A really fun game, the time stop mechanic is super fun to use (and also not broken). The music is really good, nice remixes. Pixel art is really pleasing. Decent enemies (though I wish they were a bit more imaginative). While it does feel kind of easy to 100% the map the exploration elements are still worth it.Only con is no achievements, though that's just a nice extra, doesn't lower the quality of the actual game. Oh and maybe it's a bit *too* similar to Castlevania at some points but that's nitpicking.I'm not the best at reviews but just needed to show how much I enjoyed this game and I'm eagerly awaiting the extra "stage". I enjoyed SMT Synchronicity Prologue too, the devs sure know what they're doing.
